My name is Alvise, an Administrator of Pertubuhan Rumah Kebajikan Chrestus. I have been serving here for more than 3 years. Our shelter home was established in the year of 2001 by the Local Council Members of the Cheras Lutheran Congregation. It is a non-profit organisation which dedicated to restoring the lives of children aged 2 to 18 years old who are orphaned, abused, neglected or underprivileged. We are part of the Christian community, managed by of the Ministry of Diakonia of the Lutheran Church. The Ministry of Diakonia intend to build a shelter for the kids who are in need. We believe it is our mission to restore the kids with plenty of love and hope with the aim of inspiring possibility in their future. “Diakonia” is a Greek that means serving the needy. We always hold on to our principles in offering responsible service to the needs of the people, especially for the poor. The shelter home creates a lifestyle of making the member to be self-responsible. In order to achieve that goal, we educate and empower the kids to gain more knowledge. During our free time, we will organise a futsal among the church youth or the local community. Our church will also provide kids with programmes such as youth camps, outings and other healthy activities. When any of the kids fall sick, we will bring them to the nearest clinic or hospital for immediately check-up. To avoid other kids from getting infected, we will care for those who fall sick in an insolation room. Many have asked whether it would be hard to take care of the kids. I would like to answer ‘No’. It won’t be hard to take care of them. However, the most difficult part would be to fulfil their wishes and satisfaction. Speaking of the monthly cost to take care of the members, I can’t specific the amount. The monthly expenses is approximately about RM5,000 plus including the staff allowances, rental, utilities, medical, education, tuition and transportation etc. Currently, we plan to raise fund in order to buy a house for permanent residence. The shelter home is currently in a rental premise. The fund that we having now is just enough for the rental at the moment, so we certainly need more donation.
