Today I would like to specially thank Panda Love Charity for giving me the chance to introduce Pusat Rumah Orang Tua Weng Da. I am Liew Hong Chen, the founder of this old folks home. It is established in 2003, and has been operating for 19 years. Our old folks home is currently located in a bungalow in Taman SEA, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, and we are housing over 20 residents without anyone taking care of. Some of them have depression, are unable to look after themselves, or living in poverty. Among our residents there are homeless ones, there are single ones, and there are those who were sent here by their family for being unable to take care of them. I was once a volunteer in a hospital, at that time I encountered many homeless old folks who were unable to be placed in government institutions. Therefore, I thought of taking them under my care. As we have accepted too many homeless seniors, they are only able to live within such a limited space. The house is full of beds so we just let these old folks take a break in the compound. Seeing that they have to squeeze in such a small space to relax, I was hoping to expand the space, for the sake of their comfort. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we arranged for the old folks to undergo acupuncture or physiotherapy. However, due to the pandemic, we have to stop these medical activities to prevent the old folks from viral infection. We truly care for their health, whenever someone gets ill, we would immediately call an ambulance to take them to hospital. I must be bluffing if I say taking care of them is not tough. But since I see some are unable to move around, and some are unable to speak, I think I should help them as much as I can! Ever since the pandemic, we are severely short of funding, especially that the monthly expenses is at least RM30,000, which is indeed burdening for me. During the pandemic I really thought of giving up, but I cannot bear to see these old folks becoming homeless, as no one else could take them in. Last but not least, through this channel, I hope to get passionate partners to join us in this charity work. Since I am unable to get any help over here, I find life truly tough.
